For the former use of the number, given to the Glasgow - Greenock motorway and now part of the M8, see A8(M) (Renfrewshire).
For the bypass of Glengormley in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, see A8(M) (Northern Ireland).
The A8(M) is a motorway in Scotland that links the A8 to the Baillieston Interchange with the M8 and M73. It consists entirely of a single bridge and is the shortest motorway in the UK, taking the title from the A635(M) in Manchester.
The motorway opened in Autumn 2016 when the Baillieston Interchange was remodelled as part of the completion of the M8. As part of this work, the A8 was diverted north of the junction, and the all-purpose links to the roundabout were removed. To maintain access to the motorways from the existing road network, this link road was constructed, which had to be a motorway as it leads to an interchange with exclusively other motorways.
When opened, the motorway was signed as A8(M), however the signs have since been removed, leading to some speculation over whether the motorway still retains this number. A similar road built for a similar purpose, the Walton Summit Motorway, does not have a number of its own, despite being 0.2 miles longer than the A8(M).
