Route outline (key)
A8 Ballasalla - Castletown
This article is about the former A8 on the Isle of Man, between Ballasalla and Castletown.
For the current A8 on the Isle of Man, in Douglas, see A8 (Isle of Man)
.
Level Crossing on the A5 at Ballasalla, formerly the A8

The original A8 was a short route between Ballasalla and Castletown. It was renumbered as part of the re-routed A5 in the late 1990s, when the A5 and A7 swapped routes across the south of the island. Although most of the route is fairly easy to identify, it is not clear what happened in Castletown. The A7 originally ran through the town, and the 'bypass' is repeatedly shown as an un-numbered A road. It makes most sense for this to have been the A8, but it could have alternatively been the A12.

The Manx Government Circular 1131 of 25/02/1926 defines this route as: Ballasalla to Castletown
