Autostrade per l'Italia S.p.A. is the Italian Joint-Stock company responsible for many of Italy's autostrade, or motorways.

History

1950-1981 - Origins

Founded in 1950 as Società Autostrade Concessioni e Costruzioni S.p.A. (Motorway Concessions and Construction Company) by the Italian Government, the company served as a consolodiation and organisational body for the various construction companies and sub-contractors involved in building the Italian motorway network following World War II.
