The Granish Junction lies at the northern end of the Aviemore Bypass. When the bypass was built, the A9 was moved onto the bypass, with the B9152 taking over the former line of the A9 through Aviemore itself. At the northern end of the town, the A95 was extended south from Kinveachy to meet the A9. The junction is now a link road between two parallel through routes, the link is approximately 300m long which, as a rule, is sufficient to prevent queuing traffic from backing up onto the through routes. It is, however, a busy junction with the A95 being the main route south from Speyside and Elgin.
The junction is therefore a pair of simple give way T junctions. Both have right turn lanes, one in the centre of the A9, and the other in the A95, because the A95 TOTSOs here, the B9152 to A95 north being the mainline to the east of the junction. The A9 also has acceleration and deceleration lanes on the southbound carriageway.
Future
As the dualling works on the A9 progress, it is planned that this junction will be rebuilt as a fully grade separated junction, with an underpass carrying the link road under the A9, with a pair of looped slip roads onto both carriageways of the A9, to the south of the link road. The link road will meet the A95 and B9152 at a three arm roundabout in the same location as the existing T junction.
