This article is about the original B179 north of Hoddesdon.

For the current B179 round Walthamstow in London, see B179.
The original route of the B179 was parallel to the A10 in Hertfordshire.
The B179 started in the centre of Hoddesdon on what was the A10 and headed north out of town along Burford Street. It went through Rye Park and ended in Stanstead St Margaret's on the A414 (now B181).
The B179 was upgraded to Class I status as a spur of the A10 in 1935, later renumbered A1032, and then downgraded to become an extension of the B180, and finally downgraded again to become the Class III C43 in the 1980s when the roads at each end were upgraded.
