The B205 serves the Rotherhithe peninsula in southeast London, in a 3.3 km-long loop leading from and back to the A200 along Brunel Road, Salter Road (named after a local Victorian philanthropist), and Redriff Road.
Before the redevelopment of Surrey Quays the B205 followed a route closer to the Thames along Rotherhithe Street, which claims to be the longest street in London; some maps still show this longer route. Formerly, too, the road's outer ends – Brunel Road and most of Redriff Road – were classified as, respectively, the A2201 and A2202.
