For the original B2066 in Hythe, see B2066 (Hythe).
The B2066 is an east-west route through Brighton. Until the 1970s it formed the major part of the then A277.
The route starts at traffic lights on the B2194 Boundary Road in Portslade and heads east along the residential New Church Road. This is a wide, straight road with frequent side streets. Continuing into Hove, we cross the A2023 at traffic lights and now we are on Church Road, one of Hove's main shopping streets. Some of the streets we intersect are dual-carriageway but only one is classified, the B2185. After passing the Church of St John the Baptist on our right we enter the elongated roundabout which surrounds the lawns and flower beds of Palmeira Square and leave at the far corner, now on Western Road.
At the light-controlled intersection with Montpelier Road (the B2122) the eastbound B2066 is open to buses and taxis only and other traffic must turn left or right here to reach central Brighton. The final 275 metres of Western Road, skirting the north side of the Churchill Square shopping centre, is a bus-only road in both directions.
The remaining 500 metres or so of the B2066, from its junction with the B2121, along North Street and then into Castle Square – where the route ends at a junction with the A23 – is also largely restricted to use by public transport vehicles only and/or subject to a 20 mph speed limit.
