Route
The B3022 can be considered an alternative route from Bracknell and Bagshot to Windsor.
It starts on the B3034 at Newell Green and runs northeast to the A330, multiplexing with it for over a mile though Winkfield. It then branches off again to the northeast to run along the edge of Windsor Great Park, past Legoland.
It then takes the old route of the A3017 (later A332) through Windsor and then the A332 onwards through Eton to Slough, though Windsor Bridge is now pedestrianised, meaning that it is impossible to drive the entire length of the B3022. The road ends on the A332 as that road comes in from the west and rejoins its older course.
History
The B3022 was originally allocated to what's now the A332 from Windsor, but only to the edge of the Great Park, as ahead was a private road and hence unsuitable for classification. However, by 1930 it had taken over this road and ran down as far as the B3017 at Ascot (having taken over the route of the B3019. The road was, and remains, more suitable for through traffic, and consequently in 1935, the routes of the A332 and B3022 swapped places.
