The B3255 is described in the 1922 Road Lists as Link at Callington.
In the days when the A390 ran through the centre of Callington, the B3255 acted as a southern bypass to the town, connecting the A390 to itself to avoid the town centre.
The route of the road made it ideal to being upgraded to become the Callington bypass and that is what is now. The former A390 through the centre of town is now unclassified and the ex-B3255 is now the mainline of the A390.
