The B3268 is the main road between the two Cornish towns of Bodmin and Lostwithiel.
Route
The B3268 starts from a mini-roundabout junction with the A389 in Bodmin. The A389 was the A30 before the Bodmin bypass was built. Climbing a hill, a set of traffic lights for local routes is passed and the climb continues until we pass the Bodmin terminus of the preserved Bodmin and Wenford Railway. The railway crosses us later on a bridge and we then traverse another mini roundabout. Later still is a roundabout proper for the entrance to Halgavor Park, a newish business/leisure/residential development.
We escape the 30mph limit with a 50mph sign passed. The road, is, however, essentially rural at this point and it is assumed this is for safety reasons. We cross the A30 Bodmin Bypass on a bridge with no junction. Fairly soon after is a roundabout for the road to the National-Trust-owned Lanhydrock House and another local road. Passing straight across we are now into open countryside. The 50mph limit remains however.
At the hamlet of Sweetshouse we must TOTSO - turn left at the fork. The through route to the right becomes the B3269 headed for Fowey. Immediately after the fork is our first taste of the NSL. This part of the road is narrower (no centre line) and with more bends than the former route. I assume the irony of this situation is lost on those setting speed limits in this part of the world.
The ground drops in front of us and we descend into Lostwithiel which is a town on the tidal river Fowey. A nearby tributary is followed down into the town and we pass through a lovely wooded section.
At the town we hit the the primary route A390 which crosses the River Fowey on a newer bridge. After short while we leave the multiplex by turning right. Along the one-way Fore street (North Street on the way back) we cross the same river on the 12th-century and single-file Lostwithiel Bridge and then a level crossing at Lostwithiel station before rejoining the A390 where the road terminates.
