The main B4072 (Stroud Road) runs past the south side of St Paul's, while a 490 m branch (Park End Road) starts from here and passes east of the church.
The B4072 once ran all the way from the original Bristol Road route of the A38 through Gloucester (it now starts at traffic lights on the A430) to the A46 at Pitchcombe. Today the whole route south of St Barnabas roundabout, Tuffley, the junction with the newer, Gloucester eastern bypass route of the A38, has been redesignated as the A4173.
The B4072 also has a spur along Park End Road to join the A430 inner relief road further east; this junction only allows access to/from the north.
