King William Street, in Tunstall (Stoke-on-Trent) was originally numbered B5052. It therefore acted as a convenient town-centre bypass, as it allowed traffic to pass from the A50 in the south to the A527 in the north without going through the town centre itself.
The road number did not last beyond the 1970s. First of all, the A50 was re-routed along the road. Then, following road improvements in Tunstall and the completion of Scotia Road, the A50 was re-routed again, leaving King William Street in its current unclassified state. The southern end has now been blocked off, leaving the road as purely residential.
