Route
The B5144 is a short urban B-road in Seacombe on the Wirral.
The road starts at traffic lights on the A554 Birkenhead Road, on the edge of the docks. It heads north along Kelvin Road and crosses a cutting containing the approach road to the Kingsway Tunnel. The tunnel mouth is only a short distance to the east.
The B5144 continues further to end at a set of traffic lights where all four roads have different numbers. Left is the B5145, ahead is the A551 and right is the A5028.
History
In 1922 all of the above was the B5145. The original southern end of the B5144 was one block further east than its current northern end, after which the road headed northwest along Liscard Road into Liscard, where it ended on the B5142 Wallasey Road.
This original route of the B5144 is now largely numbered A551, although the northern section is now pedestrianised and the southern section is unclassified as the A551 follows Mainwaring Road.
