The B5258 ran along Corporation Street in the centre of Preston.
Starting on the A583 Fylde Road it headed south along the entire length of Corporation Street. Although the road was largely straight, a right-hand bend took the road to its terminus on the A59 Fishergate just east of the bridge over the West Coast Main Line.
When the double roundabout at what is now the university was created, the A5071 was extended along its length to Fleet Street and at some point the A59's easterly line was moved from Fishergate to go round the back of the Corn Exchange and up what was then a much shorter Ringway. This was the death knell for this short yet useful link in Preston's city centre.
The B5258 can still be driven in its entirety today. South of Ringway it has the number C329; to the north, A5071.
