The B5287 is described in the 1922 Road Lists as Loop at Grasmere; it connects the Westmorland village with the A591 at both ends.
The road starts at a mini-roundabout in Town End and heads west along Stock Lane into the centre of the village. After crossing the River Rothay the road skirts the churchyard before bearing left at the Wordsworth Hotel to pass several other places to stay before bending right onto Broadgate, where the road opens out slightly.
The road then leaves the village and crosses some grassland before going over the Rothay again to reach the Fairy Glen area of town. It runs along Swan Lane before ending at a T-junction back on the A591.
