Route
The B6166 follows what was the original route of the A46 through the centre of Newark-on-Trent before the town's northern bypass was built.
We start at a roundabout with the A46 just outside Farndon and head northeast. Our road passes a new development to our left, followed by Newark Marina (the River Trent runs close here). We quickly reach the centre of Newark. At a signalised junction with the B6326, we take over that road and run along Lombard Street and Castle Gate as a multiplex. At a roundabout next to Newark Castle, the B6326 turns northwards, whereas we head east, still running close to the Trent. We cross a bridge over the East Coast Main Line, with the town's main railway station, Newark Northgate, on our right. After the railway, we return to the suburbs, and small industrial estates, before reaching the end of our route at a roundabout junction with the A46. This roundabout is part of a poorly designed dumbbell interchange, which has to cater for traffic on the A1, A46, and A17!
