The B726 is a short link road in Dumfries. It starts at a sharp fork junction on the B725, Nith Bank to the south of the town centre and heads south along Kingholm Road, initially adjacent to the B725 but the two roads quickly diverge. The B726 soon finds the riverbank, and curves round to the west as it runs alongside the River Nith for a few hundred yards. The road soon turns inland again, however, with sports fields and allotments on the low lying riverbanks. After a short semi-rural section, crossing fields, the route reaches the village of Kingholm Quay, almost a suburb of Dumfries these days. A small housing estate lies on the left as the road curves back to meet the river again, with a small harbour on the right and a hotel and old boatsheds on the left behind houses. As the road bends to the left at the mouth of the harbour, the B726 comes to an unmarked end; the road ahead is unclassified.
