The B9114 follows Millgate and Millgate Loan in Arbroath. It is a short route, running roughly parallel to the A92 throughout, a route which it both starts and finishes on. There seems little reason behind this route being numbered, but due to its short, urban nature it is not marked on many early maps, making it difficult to identify when it was first classified; however it appears on an MoT Map formerly held by the Ministry of Transport Library and updated to 1929-30, which would match up with the expected first allocation of this number.
The route starts on the A92 opposite Gayfield Park (Arbroath FC's ground) and heads north along Millgate Loan. To begin with the road passes modern housing estates and blocks of flats but soon turns into a side street in the old town centre. The B9095 comes in from the left along West Port (which is one-way towards the B9114) and then the B9114 becomes one-way itself as it continues along Millgate to end at traffic lights on the A92 relief road.
Before the A92 relief road was built, the B9114 continued further east into the town centre. It zigzagged right-left onto Brothock Bridge then crossed the square onto Commerce Street to end on the High Street, the original route of the A92.
