The B950 is a short but important link road in northern Perthshire.
Middleton of Dalrulzion
The route forms part of the link between the A9 and A93 to the south of the Cairngorms, and as such should be an important and busy cross country connection. However, the low quality of both the B950 and the A924 which forms the rest of this link means that it is often quicker and easier to find an alternative route, especially for larger vehicles. The route starts at a fork junction on the A924 to the south of Kirkmichael in Strathardle. At the junction is a memorial cross to James Small, a local JP. This was originally in the centre of the triangular junction but was moved to the side of the road in c2010 after being damaged by traffic. Kirkmichael itself is a small, but pretty place, the largest village in the strath, and yet almost unknown to tourists.
The route heads east and loses its centre line almost immediately, although remains wide enough for two cars to squeeze past most of the time. It climbs steadily along a series of short straights to a summit of 281m at Craggie. The climb is not particularly strenuous as the road follows stream valleys for almost its entire distance. On reaching the summit the road winds round a hill and through the narrow gap at the watershed into the next valley. It passes a large quarry site on the right before starting to descend once more. A long straight leads to a more sinuous S bend across a flat boggy area to meet the A93 at a simple T junction opposite a holiday park in Glen Shee.
The 1922 MOT Road List defines this route as: Kirkmichael - Easter Bleaton
