The Ballengeich Roundabout is a fairly recent addition to Stirling's road network, and has led to a rather complicated history. Originally this was just a simple junction on the B8051 Stirling Ring Road, a little to the north east of the new roundabout. Then the roundabout was built, and the A84 was diverted away from Raploch to this junction, and now the A811 has been diverted from Kings Knot Roundabout to the south to terminate here, although at present mapping and signage are not fully agreeing on this in all places!
The roundabout is a simple 3-arm junction, where Back O'Hill Road has been extended west from its previous junction with Raploch Road and become the A84. This route then continues west on the new-build Millenium Way, which curves around to the North West and meet the old route of the A84 at Craigforth Interchange. The third arm arrives from the south east and was, until the early 2010s, the B8051. However, in order to remove the A811 from the city centre, it was diverted north over the B8051 to terminate here on the A84 instead. This gives the added benefit of a more obvious connection to the motorway, over which the A811 passes without a junction.
The older junction was between Raploch Road, the B8051, and the unclassified Back O'Hill Road. This was a simple T junction, lying where the current junction between the two routes is, but with priority to Raploch Road, the southern part of which is now partially stopped up and part of Ballangeich Road, which connects to the A811. To the northm Raploch Road is now unclassified, and has been since the A84 was re-routed.
