Cambridgeshire County Council is the Highway Authority for all roads in the Administrative County of Cambridgeshire, with the exception of Trunk roads managed by Highways England.

The Authority takes in areas within the historic counties of Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire, as well as a small area of Essex around Great Chiswell and the Tilbrook and Eaton Socon areas of historic Bedfordshire.

Highways Management

The county council is responsible for the maintenance of all roads and associated footpaths in the county through four area offices, these being in March, Ely, Huntingdon and Whittlesford. The council also maintain 350 sets of traffic signals, road markings, 57,500 street lights, 3,900 illuminated traffic signs and 2,300 illuminated bollards. Pre salting is undertaken on 40% of the network.

Partners

The County Council is in a partnership arrangement with Atkins and a number of supply chain partners under the name of Cambridgeshire Highways. The organisation delivers, highway maintenance, transport asset management, traffic management, street lighting and bridge maintenance as well as the design of major transport infrastructure and transport planning advice.
