Countess Roundabout is a junction on the A303.
It is the first roundabout for traffic arriving from London, and for this reason it has become a notorious landmark. The main source of the infamous congestion is actually the dual carriageway ending a mile to the west.
The junction forms part of the Amesbury Bypass. Space was left for a new flyover to be provided, which is only ever likely to be built as part of the Amesbury - Berwick Down Dualling. As a temporary improvement, traffic lights were added in 2015.
A subway runs under the junction.
