Crony-ny-Mona is a T junction at the northern end of the A6 on a sweeping bend of the A18 on the edge of Douglas. The junction has been significantly improved and realigned in recent years to provide right turn lanes on both routes. One of these right turn lanes provides access to the unclassified Scollag Road, which turns right off the A6 immediately to the west of the junction, having also been realigned in the past. As the A18 forms part of the TT Circuit through the junction, the kerbs are painted alternately Black and White to improve their visibility.
History
The junction appears to have originally been more of a T junction than it is now. Scollag Road continued straight to meet the A18 at the main part of the junction, and the A6 line was also straighter than it is now, following the hedge line to the north of the current line. It seems probable that the A18 still always had priority through the junction, not least because it is the TT course. Until the late 2000s, the A6 was numbered as the A21.
