For the junction on the North Circular Road at Highams Park, see Crooked Billet Roundabout.
The Crooked Billet is a large signalised Hamburger roundabout on the A30 in Staines.
Whereas hamburgers are often perceived as being a modern layout, this one was built in the 1970s. It was built as a large roundabout, with space for the Staines Bypass to be added in the 1960s. The junction was known as Billet Bridge, as it replaced a crossing of the River Ash on the original A30 heading into Staines.
The Crooked Billet Pub stood on London Road. When the new roundabout opened, the pub overlooked it, and the junction came to be known as Crooked Billet as a result.
In 2020 and 2021, the junction was upgraded. The works consisted mainly of replacing the pedestrian subways with toucan crossings, along with widening and realignment of some of the junction arms.[1]
