Dam Bridges

Across the British Isles there are a great many dams of all shapes and sizes. Some were built to provide a stable water supply to our urban areas, others were built to provide us with Hydro Electricity. In the course of construction, a great number of roads had to be re-routed and in a few cases the roads were re-routed over the dam structure itself. This can take the form of an elevated bridge spanning the spillway, or simply a road across an earthen bank, amongst others. There are, of course, normally roadways across the tops of dams to provide access for maintenance, but more often that not, especially in Scotland, these are private, gated roads, frequently restricted to pedestrians too. This all makes the genuine road-over-dam experience a rare event in the British Isles!
