Dutch House Roundabout

Dutch House Roundabout is the southern end of the A78, and more or less the northern end of the Ayr Bypass on the A77. It is a 4-arm roundabout where 3 of those arms are dual carriageways - the classified roads - and the fourth arm is the former line of the A77 heading into Monkton, although the onward route is severed by the extension of Prestwick Airport. The Airport itself is reached via the A78 and A79, which eventually resumes the former line of the A77.

The roundabout also facilitates the turning of the A77. After a long run south west from Glasgow, it turns south east around the bypass, eventually resuming its historic line near Alloway, south of Ayr. The A78 heads west, before turning north at the next roundabout, whilst the road into Monkton continues south west. Despite connecting three busy dual carriageways, the junction is not yet signalised, and other than a sliplane for traffic continuing south on the A77, there are no provisions made for any specific movements. This does not, however, mean that the junction is free-flowing, and queues can build, albeit normally creeping forward so delays are not excessive.
