Description:A6 High Hesket

This short D2 section through High Hesket has a real period feel to it, with the hedges, the grassy verges and the old road-house on the right. This was for many years known as the Astra Cafe, and was a regular refreshment stop for the Anglo-Scottish coaches before or after attacking the A66 over to and from Scotch Corner. Presumably it was remenurative enough for them open up in the middle of the night for the night services to stop. It's now a furniture shop.
