Gallery:A303
Start (or finish) of the A303 at Honiton. The A30 branches off here and becomes a minor back road until officially Staines M25 junction but it starts signing London in Camberley where its still a minor road and the M3 is next door (people will think i got a bee in my bonnet about that)

Ah this sign is a memory of times goign down to Devon or Cornwall. Exeter was always replaced by Breakfast. I dont know why! Rare these days to see a place the size of Exeter signed with as many miles.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Mar 24, 2009 by snowman is backNaturally, I slipped through Horton to bypass most of the jam. Ironic really. This is from the A358 bridge, on the section towards Chard. Looking west.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 01, 2008 by SteveA30West end of the Ilminster bypass.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 29, 2008 by SteveA30Looking west out of Sparkford towards the end of the bypass at the rbt. Original A359 junction followed the hedgerow and now acts as a rbt shortcut, easing some of the congestion. Neat idea.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Apr 07, 2008 by SteveA30The exact point where the A303 gives way to the A30 at Upottery in Devon. The end of the red paint would appear to mark the spot. Looking east. Annie's Tea Bar layby in distance.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 18, 2007 by SteveA30Looking west. Road layout unchanged for at least 4 decades, apart from the red paint and newer signs. Nice to see such a thing these days.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 18, 2007 by SteveA30Looking from the local turn across the A30 to the area behind the rubble mound. Kerbs still in place. Access to the new A303 is via the old, which is now the w/bnd slip. To Basingstoke via the old then, under the new and along another bit of old A30 as the e/bnd slip. A Porsche shot past seconds after this pic going east. I followed and on reaching a T junction, he had buried it in a tree opposite and was already out and on his mobile, unharmed but, trying to look cool. Snigger.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 24, 2007 by SteveA30Someone was kind enough to say this WAI picture was nice, so I thought I'd submit it to POTM.
Yes, everyone else was looking the other way, at the stones someone has dumped right next to the ancient Harroway!
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Apr 25, 2009 by t1(M)Heading west at the Stonehenge Fork, soon to disappear hopefully.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 09, 2009 by SteveA30The closure of the A344, should ease the hold ups here, although dualling is the only real answer.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 09, 2009 by SteveA30Building Stonehenge so close to the A303 obviously didn't help.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 09, 2009 by SteveA30Conclusive proof that Stonehenge is an ISA, Intergalactic Service Area. Pods from the planet Tharg, stop for a break, whilst heading west for their holidays.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 09, 2009 by SteveA30Approaching the A360, future access to Stonehenge, after the A344 closes. Should be GSJ'd.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 09, 2009 by SteveA30Approaching Winterbourne Stoke. The kink is the village.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 29, 2009 by SteveA30Looking east from the very edge of the village.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 29, 2009 by SteveA30I guess it is the last pub now that the Bullington Cross Inn has closed. There must have been at least 100 on the old road A303/A30
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 29, 2009 by SteveA30Looks like it was prone to flooding before 1939. No problem with value for money here, 70 years on and, still in front line service.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 29, 2009 by SteveA30Looking west from an old road layby.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 29, 2009 by SteveA30Summer Saturday, July 2009. The queue for the end of the D2 near Stonehenge, from the east end of the Amesbury bypass. Solstice Services on right. Easily avoidable by going through the town. There is only 1 set of lights and no congestion on the one way system. Much quicker.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 21, 2009 by SteveA30Looking towards the Countess rbt and, Stonehenge. The rbt. isn't the problem, as the Q goes beyond to the end of the D2, about 2 miles away.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 21, 2009 by SteveA30Bypassed small towns are quiet and peaceful yet, somehow lifeless. Saturday morning in Amesbury, looking east along the now one way road, post the 1970 bypass. W/bnd turns left at the lights in the distance and, comes out behind me.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 21, 2009 by SteveA30Plenty of history though, on the old route.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 21, 2009 by SteveA30You then rejoin the A303, just before the end of the D2. Neat. Not quicker for me, because I stopped to explore but, y'know, it would have been.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 21, 2009 by SteveA30Popham, looking west, with Heston Blumenthal's LC visible, plus a BP Connect/Wild Bean Cafe.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 10, 2009 by SteveA30Now with extra added 3! This was a D2 in the 60's. The M3 joined it end on in 1971 and, later still, it became A303. Looking east.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 10, 2009 by SteveA30Esso/On The Run and an ex Little Chef, now the Popham Diner. Last stop until Fleet on the M3, whereas, in the old days, there were another 16 places before London.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 10, 2009 by SteveA30Inside, LC furniture is still in use. Cheaper prices though.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jul 10, 2009 by SteveA30A Standard 2-6-4T rests in a layby on the A303 near Mere. 80104 if anyone is interested.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 11, 2009 by SteveA30Zeals Wilts. Bypassed 1991 or 92. The garage is combined with the Post Office. This would seem to be the way to ensure the survival of both vulnerable amenities. Looking west.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 10, 2009 by SteveA30Ilminster bypass, April 15 2009, heading west.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Apr 25, 2009 by SteveA30A car transporter shed its load of brand new cars on the w/bnd A303 at about 7am. By 10, I was there in Ilchester for the diversion. This is the former A37/A303 junction, now mainline from old A303 to old A37 on the right.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 18, 2008 by SteveA30Looking west where the old A303 went straight on.
