Ashby Bypass 1 - spot the deliberate(?) mistake

The 'gap' in the roundabout has been misplaced. Doesn't anyone pick up on these things? Why did the people who made it do it differently from every other one they've ever made?

Ashby Bypass 2 - spot the (corrected) mistake

I was driving back along the A511 Ashby Bypass the other day... and spotted the subtle amendment. My question is, who noticed it was wrong? Does someone get paid to drive around noticing these things? And I still can't understand why it was made wrong. Why make a sign that is different to all the other roundabout signs you've ever made? Surely they have a template for these things? I'm going to lie down in a dark room now.

1938 plan for a western bypass of Burton upon Trent. Orders were made for this road which was never built, most likely due to the war.

Along the A511 in Burton. A few older concrete columns with sleeved brackets. The lanterns are Philips MA50s.
IMG 1105.JPG sleeved concrete columns Thorn Isaro Pros.jpg
10m sleeved concrete columns with Thorn Isaro Pros (LED). The previous lanterns were Urbis ZX1s (SON/HPS), which were an unusual choice of lantern for columns at this height. I think the original lanterns before that probably would of been SOX/LPS types. This is on the A511 in South Derbyshire, just outside Swadlincote.
