Gallery:A8
A spectacular rainbow over the A8 west of Edinburgh, near the Gogar Roundabout, after a brief heavy shower. This was taken by Serena but I have uploaded it as she doesn't currently have access to the photo galleries.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Nov 05, 2007 by leopard680There's nothing especially notable about the old A8 through Langbank; there's a few painted on traffic calming measures, and the centre white line has been moved as seen here to accomodate parking. Some of the old grey granite surface can be seen showing through in places. Existing A8 just to the right (road sign on it visible).
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 31, 2007 by leopard680Looking west, this old stub of the former A8 remains to serve a few houses, where the road through Langbank curves down to the right here to rejoin the existing A8 dual-carriageway

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 31, 2007 by leopard680This fabulous old section of D2 remains through Port Glasgow, absolutely deserted, with some original surface remaining.

Here the A8 gets much more crowded compared to the D3 section just along the road in Carntyne

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 26, 2007 by leopard680On its way south to Clarkston on route 105, trolleybus TB116 is about to cross the Clyde at Victoria Bridge. It would have only a few more hours of life - this was the last day of trolleybus operation in Glasgow. Many such closures seemed to take place in dull or rainy conditions - this was an exception.
In the background can be seen the bridge over Stockwell Street carrying the railway lines out of St. Enoch Station. It has completely disappeared, as seen in NS5964 : Stockwell Street. Particularly noticeable is the general blackness of the buildings in 1967. This was typical of large towns and was the result of years of smoke laden atmosphere resulting from domestic and industrial burning of coal.

Looking Northwards up the M9. The blue and white bridge in background is cycle/footbridge mentioned in other photo. My safety chariot was an intercity bus that was moving at normal inner-city bus pace.

This is one of the busiest junctions in Edinburgh receiving traffic from Glasgow as well as many smaller towns.
The A752 to Uddingston continues under the bridge which in turn carries the A8, the main road between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
