Dreadful at grade junction in west Dublin. This is looking southbound with westbound traffic on the N4 crossing left->right. It is the ONLY at grade junction on the N4/M4 west of the M50 all the way to Kinnegad (soon to be Kilbeggan). It is planned to GS this junction and not a moment too soon. The Friday evening tailbacks towards Dublin are chronic. The GSJ has been designed and should proceed soon. It will entail sinking the N4 into a trench and briging that trench at this point.

The line is bein widened to 4 tracks here and consequently the old hump bridge is history. The new concrete deck can be seen to the left. A new railway station is also being built to the right (you can just make out the project sign) as part of a 'new town' called Adamstown. All the roads also need upgrading because of this new town which will contain app. 10k dwellings.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 02, 2006 by murphaphas well as widening the N4 to D3H at this location it will grade separate this junction (R120) by trenching the N4 (like the westlink at Grosvenor Road) and constructing an overbridge for the R120 which should stay roughly at the same level. Site clearance just started. All these mellors will be no more.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 11, 2006 by murphaphThe lower sign is really interesting. Apart from the fact it should of course be a patch on the map sign above, it fails to conform to the Traffic Signs Manual, which prescribes the use of a faux-Irish ‘ɑ’ and dotless ‘ı’ in Irish-language texts. The lower line of text is also incorrect as it should all be in uppercase Transport, not mixed case as we have here. Originally uploaded to Coppermine on May 11, 2006 by murphaph
N.B. This sign has been replaced since at least 2009as well as widening the N4 to D3H at this location it will grade separate this junction (R120) by trenching the N4 (like the westlink at Grosvenor Road) and constructing an overbridge for the R120 which should stay roughly at the same level. Site clearance just started. All these mellors will be no more.

Major roadworks here for a year or so to GSJ this junction and widen the N4 which is the last one between the M50 and M4 to need this treatment. Finally it will soon be freeflow from M50 to the M4 and onwards. N4 could possibly get motorway restrictions here when these works are finished but unlikely IMO.
