Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jun 10, 2005 by Roadtripper_IanHere is a Little Chef. I doubt it makes much money. There is one in the MSA nearby & the very suberb Scotch Corner Transport caf. Still Stranger things has happened.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Jan 09, 2006 by ABeatonHere is an A66 sign south of Scotch Corner. The A1 here is D2Mish. The Services after the sign are bound to close once the upgrade to Motorway is done in 2011. The A66 will also be Dualed from Scotch Corner to about a mile from Penruddock witch is about 12 miles from the M6. When the Motorwqay upgrade is done, Newcastle will finally join the Motorway network popter.
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 20, 2005 by ABeatonHere is A1 J55 aka Scotch Corner. Well it isn't signed as such but it is before A1(M) J56. The sign here looks in good nick. This picture was oringally colour but I turned it black & White. Also notice how busy the A1 is here. It also D2Mish but with the upgrade to motorway this will change. The MSA here is only signed in A-class Services. Thsi roundabout is busy due to the MSA & the famous Scotch Corner Transport Caf.

Some points of interest: 1. it's not very clear which is the Great North Road e.g. the road between Scotch Corner and Darlington is shown as a secondary route, whilst the road from Boroughbridge to Darlington via Northallerton, including the part later lost in the construction of RAF Dishforth, is a main route; 2. the A68 is just a minor road; 3. the A696, A697 & A1 all appear to be of equal status.
