This photograph is taken looking south-eastwards towards Barnoldswick. Some of the shop premises here have reverted to use as dwelling houses, but those that remain fulfil an important local function. From the right hand end there is a newsagent, then a vacant shop, then a post office and a butcher. The next two shops have been converted into an Italian restaurant, while a mini-mart is just beyond that. At the end of the parade is the junction with Harper Street, on the right hand side.
Woodhall station is on the left. Looking east here, there were previously far more tenements along this stretch. The small building standing alone is a shop/post office (still open) which previously would've been surrounded by housing
Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Aug 26, 2007 by leopard680There are zig-zag markings seen here, always present on British crossings, which is a good surprise to see which these are far and between in Ireland! Although earlier this year the markings at this crossing were not there so these would have been painted on fairly recently which might mean zig-zags must be painted on Irish crossings from now on.
The traffic lights here seem to be really old Mellors dating back possibly to the 70s/80s as the white borders already have faded away.

Originally uploaded to Coppermine on Sep 02, 2005 by J--M--BThis zebra crossing is pretty dangerous as it is placed on the extremely busy four lane Route 1 with the traffic moving at alarmingly high speeds!
