Hopgrove Roundabout is the point on the A64 where the York Northern Bypass (A1237) has its north eastern end.
The roundabout was originally congested because of the York ring road ending here and the proximity of the Monks Cross retail park. In recent years improvements such as new traffic signals and extra lanes have been made and the junction flows a lot better. However, in the holiday period, the A64 Southern bypass still clogs up. People blame the roundabout for being the problem, however it just controls access to the real bottleneck just to the north, where the A64 narrows to S2.
The East Coast Motorway proposals show the motorway crossing the A64 at this junction.
