Kinross Junction is junction 6 of the M90. It is a fairly standard motorway junction design with an oval roundabout sited above the carriageway, its long axis running north-south with the M90. The A977 approaches from the west, with the A922 departing to the east, both having large triangular islands between their approach and departure lanes. Kinross services are sited a short distance along the A977 to the west, while a Supermarket lies in the south east corner of the junction, and the town centre is barely half a mile away.
Before the motorway was built, the A977 continued directly into the town centre along what is now the B918 and met the A90 (now the B996) on High Street. The A922 then cut the corner, along its current route, for A977 traffic wishing to head north on the A90. The A922 has therefore been ever so slightly extended west along the former A977, although why this is the case, and the A977 wasn't extended over the A922 and former A90 into Milnathort is a bit of a mystery! The motorway itself was built a little to the west of the old railway line at this point, although elsewhere it used the trackbed, explaining why the old A977 into Kinross is Station Road.
