Lizzie Brice's Roundabout takes its name from a notable character who lived nearby in the 1800s, and who in her old age was sometimes called a witch. The site of her home is still called 'Lizzie Brices Strip', a woodland area to the north east of the roundabout. The roundabout is the southern end of the A899, which was extended through the new town of Livingston as a major dual carriageway spine road. After a series of fully Grade separated Junctions, it ends at this flat roundabout on the A71. Heading west on the A71, it too enjoys a couple of grade separated junctions, despite being single carriageway. The southern arm of the A71 quickly turns to the east as the bypass of Mid and East Calder, while the B8046 heads east as the local route into these villages. However, it follows a completely new route and does not use any of the former A71 route.
When the A899 was first built, the A71 was still following its original line, and so met the new road at a T junction from the west, the old A71 to the west was then closed up, and instead it turned south, using just over 100m of the current A899 route, before sweeping round to the west again on a curve which can still be found amongst the trees to the north west of the roundabout. The roundabout was added later, when the eastern section of the A71 was built to bypass East and Mid Calder.
