The M20 is the motorway standard section of the N20 south of Limerick.
It runs from a junction with the M7 and the N18 to the diverge with the N21 and was referred to as the "New Cork Road".
Since the 2000s, there have been vague plans to actually extend the motorway to Cork, forming an 'Atlantic Corridor' motorway network that doesn't radiate around Dublin. These proposals became formal plans in October 2017. There continues to be considerable disquiet about this project, with some saying it should run via Mitchelstown instead of following the N20.
