The M67 bypasses the towns of Denton, Lancashire, and Hyde, Cheshire. The western section is a good example of an urban motorway, whilst the eastern section is rural in nature.
At both ends of the motorway, the junctions were constructed to allow for future extension of the motorway, both westwards into Manchester and eastwards to the M1 near Sheffield.
History
M67 Manchester - Sheffield Motorway
The road was originally proposed as a motorway throughout. It was decided in 1977 that the best economic and environmental solution would be to bypass the congested towns either side of the Peak District National Park with such limited improvement of A628 as might in time be necessary. At the time the proposed bypass of Stocksbridge and Deepcar was subject to consultation. [1]

M67 Motorway Eastbound
A trip along entire length of the M67 eastbound. Even though it was filmed off-peak, there were still substantial queues waiting to get into Mottram-in-Longdendale!
