Muirton Roundabout is the main access from the A91 into the Springkerse Industrial Estate and Retail Park on the edge of Stirling. Connecting to the Motorways to the south, most traffic, particularly heavy traffic will approach from the A91 rather than through the city. This can make it a busy junction with a lot of turning traffic, but only the southern arm of the A91 and the exit from the industrial estate really have sufficient length of turning lanes on the approach to accommodate the queues at peak times. This suggests that the roundabout was installed prior to the development of the retail park, and for whatever reason an upgrade has not proven possible.
The roundabout is a 5 arm junction, with the A91 passing through north-south. To the south west is the retail park entrance, and to the west the industrial estate. On the eastern side of the roundabout, a lane winds off across the flood plain to access the scattered farms and houses in the flat landscape along the meandering banks of the Forth. A short distance down the road into the retail park lies another 5 arm roundabout, separating traffic out to the various store areas and also the park and ride site. This junction seems to aggravate the traffic congestion at peak times, with traffic queueing both ways on the connecting link.
The A91 is still signed as primary at the junction, although it is not clear if this is correct.
