The N68 is the main road along southern County Clare.
Route
The road starts on the N85Ennis bypass. There's a slight dogleg to get onto the original main road, which crosses the N85 again without a junction. It heads southwest along fairly flat countryside as a typical narrow single carriageway road, with little opportunity for taking. There are a handful of villages set along the road, but no major towns until the urban sprawl of Kilrush at the end. The final section of the N68 is a brief TOTSO and diversion away from narrow streets, and the road ends at a roundabout with the N67.
History
The N68 originally started on the N18 (now the R458) south of Ennis town centre. It was moved to its current starting point when the N85 bypass opened; the original route is now the R475.
