The Glenbervie Interchange only dates back to 2012, the junction previously having just consisted of North Broomage Roundabout. This was originally a junction between the A9 and A876 to the east. The Larbert bypass on the A876 included the construction of a roundabout, with the junction becoming a cross roads. When the M80 opened on the 22nd of May 1974, the upgraded section of A876 was given motorway regulations, and became the M876. This was later extended eastwards, around the north of the roundabout, leaving a spur. The former A876 to the east of the roundabout was renumbered as the A88.

Thus the junction prior to 2012 consisted of the west facing slips of the M876 heading west, the A88 heading east and the A9 passing through the roundabout from north to south. A fifth, stub arm, leads north east into a field and has long been marketed for development, but remains undeveloped. The onslip to the motorway is still the original line of the them A876, however the offslip is partly new build, and carried over the mainline, before resuming the original A876 line. A footpath crosses the M876 sliproads under motorway regulations - a hang over from the road's former all purpose status.

With the construction of the new Forth Valley Hospital to the south west of the roundabout, accessed from the A9, the long standing complaint regarding the lack of east-facing slips was finally resolved. Part of the reason behind the new sliproads was to improve ambulance access between the hospital and motorway network, although due to the design of the two terminal junctions on the M876, ambulance traffic to the north, for Stirling in particular remains on the A9.

Glenbervie Interchange therefore came into being, with new 'half diamond' east facing slips added to connect the motorway to the A9 where the two routes cross to the north of the older roundabout. The onslip is served by the new Glenbervie Roundabout, whilst the offslip meets a simple give way line. The new roundabout was built to the northeast of the A9, and has a total of 5 arms. Two for the A9, the onslip to the motorway, an entrance to the Golf Course and a farm access.
