Osmaston Road Roundabout is junction 5 of the Derby inner ring road.
History
For many years, the Osmaston Road Roundabout was the boundary between the purpose built section of the A601 and the temporary one way system. As a result of this, the junction was strangely arranged for many years- traffic wanting to continue along the A601 from Bradshaw way approached the roundabout and was then held at traffic lights before crossing the A514 on its approach to the roundabout. After crossing the A514, traffic on the ring road continued along Charnwood Street. Traffic from the A601 approaching the junction from the old one way system used the current entry to the roundabout, which is now part of Lara Croft Way.
During the Connecting Derby project, the old one way system was upgraded to a purpose built road. As a result, traffic from Bradshaw Way no longer needed to access Charnwood Street and so the junction was converted to a normal roundabout when Lara Croft Way opened, in July 2010.
The roundabout remains a conventional roundabout and is currently controlled by traffic signals with pedestrian crossings.
