Description
Plough Hill Roundabout, also signed as Badbury Roundabout, is a roundabout interchange at Junction 15 of the M4. It is the terminus of the A346 towards Salisbury, and the A419 towards Swindon and the M5.
It is often used by westbound M4 traffic wanting to use the A419 as a shortcut to the northbound M5 to avoid Almondsbury Interchange, and by eastbound traffic wanting to use the A420 as a shortcut to Oxford, as well as providing access to Swindon.
An M4 maintenance compound is also located at the junction.
History
Prior to the construction of the M4, this was simply part of the A345, heading from the centre of Swindon (along the present day A4259 / B4005 Marlborough Road) down towards Marlborough and Salisbury via Pewsey. The construction of the M4 necessitated the construction of a junction here.
