Pont Pen-y-bont lies on Aberystwyth's eastern edge, and carries the A4120 across the River Rheidol. It sits between the steep hill of Penparcau Hill and the roundabout for the new retail parks. For a short period some maps showed the A487 re-routed across this bridge and so up Parc Avenue to the town centre, but it is doubtful if this was ever the reality.
