The Purfleet Interchange is where the A282 meets the old A13 (now numbered A1306). It was first built in 1963 when the Dartford Tunnel opened. It has always been a busy junction due to it being the turn off for Southend. It lost that traffic in 1982 when the A13 was moved to its current route east. In 1980, the junction was majority rebuilt to accommodate the M25 which made the junction limited. It also has new roads built that link Avery and Purfleet, the latter road classified in 1988 as A1090. It also around the late 80's that the first portions of Lakeside retail park opened. With Thurrock services opening in 1988 and the Lakeside shopping mall opening in 1991 it regain it busyness lost when Southend traffic moved to the new A13. It final changes were done in 1999. The new A13 was extended westwards from the Mar Dyke Interchange therefore making the road west the A1306. The eastbound A1306 also made D2. Today it is a very busy junction and it is often used as a rat run when the M25 (A282) is jammed which is a common conformance.
