For the junction in Flintshire, see Queensferry Interchange.
As part of the Forth Replacement Crossing project a new motorway junction west of South Queensferry was built as part of the southern approach roads for the new cable-stayed bridge. It is named Queensferry Junction and is numbered as M90 junction 1A.
The junction is a standard roundabout interchange built over the M90 mainline, with the A904 passing across at right angles. This type of junction was commonly built in the early years of Britains motorway network, but later fell out of favour, largely due to the cost of building the two bridges. The junction is also partially signalised, the exception being the western arm of the A904. In many ways, this seems to be a case of over engineering, but it was probably designed to assist traffic in the case of a bridge closure or other incident.
In order to build the junction, a minor road to the south west was re-routed to meet the A904 further west, and the former triangle junction with the B924 was redesigned, and turned into a signal controlled T junction which meets the A904 a very short distance to the east of the main interchange.
