The R231 is a regional route in County Donegal which forms a longish loop off the N15 between Ballyshannon and Ballintra. Leaving the N15 at the Coolcholly roundabout to the north of Ballyshannon town it first heads northwest towards the coast and the vicinity of Rossnowlagh before returning northeastward to rejoin the N15 at the point where the latter road skirts the western side of the village of Ballintra.
