Looking along the R313, some 5 km west-north-west of Bangor Erris

The R313 is the main road over the Mullet Peninsula in County Mayo.

After traversing north-west from Bangor Erris to Belmullet, and crossing the isthmus linking the long Mullet Peninsula to the mainland, the R313 turns south, and runs for about 20 km to the harbour and lighthouse at Caladh an Fód Dubh at the southern end of Blacksod Bay. Just short of the end of the route, a side turn to the right leads within a kilometre or so to a modern artistic creation taking the form – on a site affording a wide vista over land and sea – of a spiral of granite boulders marking the end of the North Mayo Sculpture Trail, Tír Sáile ("saltwater land").
