The R394 starts south of Mullingar at the Bloomfield Road Roundabout junction with the R400, from where it passes around the west side of the town following the recently constructed "C Link" orbital road, meets the N4 bypass at the grade-separated Junction 17, and then sets off northward through Castlepollard to end on the N55 at Kilcogy, about 20 km south of Cavan.
The greater part of this route – north of Mullingar – was formerly a section of the T10.
