Raynesway Park Junction was formerly a flat roundabout, but was converted between 2009 and 2011 into the grade-separated junction it is today.
History
Prior to the opening of the A6 Alvaston Bypass in 2003 there was no junction here. Instead the A5111 Raynesway curved away to the northwest through the site of the present southern roundabout of the dumbbell interchange.
Grade separation was introduced to alleviate rush hour congestion as well as to provide access to large, new developments in the area. The work was carried out between August 2009 and August 2011 and also involved the closure for safety reasons of a minor-road junction on Raynesway and the construction of a new link road (Bellmore Way) from the southern roundabout to serve the industrial premises affected.
